Behind the Ombré Swirl Scarves
Design always starts with some sort of visual idea, and for me this often is just a mark on a page. Carrying a sketchbook everywhere, I end up detailing brief visual notes in the form of motifs, or in the case of this illustration, a more fully realized drawing. Sometimes it’s just an idle moment with a vague thought of either hard-edged geometry or softer tendril-like lines. With this particular design, I began with curling forms to fill the page. By the time I finished the sketch and decided to scan it in to work some digital magic, it expanded into a textile pattern and changed from solid color shading to an ombré effect.
